The Textile Team
PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO ESSENTIAL MAINTENANCE THE KEEP IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.
Dean Castle Textile Team is now in its tenth successful year!
Funded partly by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the project relies entirely on local volunteers working alongside museum staff from East Ayrshire Leisure. The members have a wide range of skills but community support and skills sharing is at its heart. The group have worked on a range of projects including conservation of a set of early 18th century Italian curtains which hang in the Banqueting Hall of the castle, the production of storage bags for the Ayrshire Needlework baby robe collection and educational costumes. The Team's latest endeavours have included repairs to South Ayrshire Council’s Provost Robes and the pulpit fall from St. Kentigern’s Church, Kilmarnock as well as many costume pieces for East Ayrshire Youth Theatre's performances.
The group is currently embarking on the production of a replica military Standard relating to the Napoleonic Wars. The original is on display in the Royal Scot’s Dragoon Guards Museum, Edinburgh Castle. This replica will be used in displays during the 200th anniversary celebrations in 2015 and funding was given by the Weir Trust via Kilmarnock Waterloo 200 Trust for this project.
The TT meet on Wednesdays at Dean Castle between 11.00am & 3.30pm. All are welcome to come along and chat to the team while they work!
